HEART of Taos (HEART) has been providing emergency housing support and services for individuals and families in Taos County since 2016. However, as of October 16, 2024, HEART had to make the decision to discontinue its family hotel shelter program. We utilized the hotel shelter model during COVID-19, but as a small nonprofit – mainly funded by private donations – continuing that model is not financially sustainable for HEART. HEART will continue to work with community leaders and agencies to support a collaborative and community based approach to family sheltering in Taos County.

In response, HEART’s Board of Directors approved to expand our Family in Focus program beginning November 1, 2024.  Family in Focus will provide financial support to families in Taos County for homelessness prevention.
