Where I was living before, it was bad. There was a lot of drugs and alcohol. I didn’t have anywhere else to go, and I have a little boy. I don’t want him in that kind of place. I started living in my car, parking in different places all over town. I was scared.
I heard about HEART of Taos and that they maybe can help someone like me and my little boy, so I went to find out.
It was really cold outside, and we didn’t have any food or warm clothing. At the HEART Resource Center, we had some hot soup and coffee. We also got some warm clothes for me and my little boy. They said they had some emergency help they could give me and got us a room for the night in a warm, safe place.
The next day, they helped me get connected with other resources in town, other places that could help us. With help from HEART, I was able to get a good job and a place of my own. So now my boy and I are safe and making it on our own.
